Laminate Hardwood Floor
Install A Laminate Or Hardwood Floor Today
Your flooring specialist should not offer you a compromised service. You can insist on the best today in terms of service, variety and price, because a flooring installation represents a significant financial outlay and you have the right to expect only the very best in return for your hard-earned money. Therefore, your flooring supplier should offer you a choice of a laminate or hardwood floor, or any other type of natural or engineered floor.
The price difference between a laminate and hardwood floor is significant. Hardwood floors are beautiful to look at and luxurious, but because they are made of planks up to 20mm thick and of woods like oak, walnut and maple, they demand a price premium. Engineered wooden floors resemble laminate floors in that they are engineered floors, but with a genuine wood top layer of up to 5mm in thickness. They offer a pleasing, natural wood surface at reduced cost, compared to a solid wooden floor.
A full laminate floor does not contain any of these expensive woods and is significantly more affordable still. A laminate floor is usually installed on a foam underlay, but a rubber underlay can be specified to render a particularly quiet-walking floor. The laminate itself consists of several parts, starting with a backing, bonded to a dense fibre core, covered with a hard, melamine-based top cosmetic layer that can be imprinted with photographed prints of real hardwood. The result is a floor that closely resembles a natural surface at much-reduced cost. The laminate's cosmetic layer is very wear-resistant and needs the minimum of maintenance.
