Look After Your Wool Rugs to Extend Their Lifespan

After falling out of favour, carpets are once again making a comeback. They provide a certain charm and warmth to a room that cannot be achieved by other flooring types, and are just as easy to maintain as any other type of floor nowadays. If you live in a house with hard surface flooring, this does not mean you have to redo your flooring – you can simply invest in a few beautiful rugs to complement your décor and add that extra special touch to a room. And if you are going for adding an extra bit of lavishness, why not do it properly with high quality wool rugs?

Only a small percentage of rugs are now made with genuine wool fibre, as there are many materials out there that provide cheaper alternatives. It is important to note, however, that wool has excellent aesthetic properties, and even though modern synthetic fibres sometimes offer superior performance, they have not fully achieved the natural patina of wool. Wool rugs might not boast the same level of resistance to abrasion or moisture absorption that many modern synthetic fibres do, but it does clean well if the correct methods are used, and is therefore considered to age gracefully.

Vacuuming is the best way to remove everyday dirt and dust from wool rugs. In the first year, it is recommended that you vacuum at least two or three times a week to remove excess fuzz that accumulates on the rug surface. For more serious spills and stains, you can clean your rug using dry foam and an absorbent pad. Start the cleaning process as soon as possible after the stain or spill occurred for better results. You can also make use of professional stem cleaning services. We do not recommend dry powder cleaning on wool rugs, as removal of the cleaning residue might be difficult. Oxygen cleaners should also be avoided at all cost when it comes to wool rugs.
